The Clefs Concert

Memories of yesteryear raise vital funds

The people of Feilding flocked to support a sold out show by local band, The Clefs, on 12 May 2007.

It was a festive affair that had the nostalgic feel of concerts from the ‘60s & ‘70s, with cigarette girls selling jaffas on hand to complete the journey back in time.

The Clefs, a group of ex-musicians who loved to meet and reminisce about the olden days and the fantastic concerts of their youth, had never organised a concert before. They decided the time and come and the idea was born to make it a fundraising concert with all the proceeds being divided between two worthy charitable organisations.

The LBF was chosen to receive half of the $5,000 raised as our work is very close to the heart of organiser, Trevor Dalzell, whose partner has lost both a brother and a niece to leukaemia.

Sounds from the ‘60s & ‘70s filled the air and entertained the 440 locals who turned out for a great night of fun and laughter. The songs were all numbers that people remembered from ‘back in the day’; songs they could hum, sing, or even whistle along to. The group are hoping to make the event a regular one with the next performance being scheduled for June this year.

Pru Etcheverry, Executive Director of the LBF said: “We were incredibly grateful to be chosen as the beneficiaries of such a wonderful event. The thought and preparation that went into it was fantastic and the support from the local community of Feilding really appreciated.”
