Scramble for a Cure

Golfing for a great cause

The Holden Scramble has proved a hugely popular golfing championship since it was launched in Australia back in 1992.

Its popularity spread across the Tasman in 2002 when the Professional Golfers' Association of New Zealand launched the NZ arm of the competition.

265Golf-BallThe event offers amateur golfers, with a current 18-hole NZ Golf handicap, the chance to win their way to the Championship Final for the opportunity to play alongside some of Australia and New Zealand's biggest names in golf.

And over the last year, 2,400 of the NZ entrants opted to participate in Scramble for a Cure, an LBF-fundraiser.

By paying an extra $5 fee they entered a ‘Closest to the Pin’ competition and the winner at each golf course was entered into a draw to win a spot in the Holden Scramble grand final at the gorgeous Twin Pines Resort on the Gold Coast, Australia.

Since the NZ events for 2007 kicked off on Friday 16 March, those $5 fees have mounted up to raise an impressive $12,000 for the LBF and we are looking forward to participation in Scramble for a Cure continuing to grow in 2008.

Pru Etcheverry, Executive Director of the LBF, said: “It is a major highlight in our fundraising year – a lot of fun is had by the players as they compete but the event also helps to spread the message of our vision to cure and mission to care via golf courses throughout New Zealand.”

A huge thank you goes to Jim McClellan, Holden New Zealand and the New Zealand Professional Golfers’ Association for their continued support.
