Our vision & mission
The Leukaemia & Blood Foundation (LBF) is the leading organisation in New Zealand dedicated to supporting patients and their families living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood conditions.
Since 1977, our work has been made possible through our fundraising events and the generous support we receive from individuals, companies, trusts and grants. We do not receive government funding.
With a vision to cure and a mission to care, we are committed to improving the quality of life for patients and their families living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and related blood conditions.
Funding goes to our core services core services – patient support, research, information, awareness and advocacy.
Patient Support
We provide personalised support programmes for patients and their families. This can include regular visits, phone or email contact, as well as face to face education and support programmes and an online information forum. We also provide a toll free number for advice, empathy and support.
Research
Research plays a critical role in building a greater understanding of blood cancers and conditions. We support and fund investigation into these blood cancers and conditions – nearly $1.6 million to date. Improved treatments for patients can lead to increased survival rates.
Information
We provide vital information to patients, families, health professionals and the community to improve understanding about blood cancers and conditions. Our materials include:

Awareness
We work to increase public knowledge about leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood conditions. We believe that building community awareness and knowledge increases public support and involvement. Our campaigns include:
* Awareness: World Lymphoma Awareness Day, Leukaemia Appeal Week
* Fundraising: Shave for a Cure, Firefighters Sky Tower Challenge, Dining for a Difference, Golf Marrowthon
Advocacy
We represent the needs of patients and their families to the government, related agencies and other relevant organisations. We also act on the behalf of patients and their families on issues that arise in relation to their diagnosis.
