LBF charity of choice
Fifa World Cup competition benefits the LBF
The LBF is graciously thankful to all our supporters. We certainly don’t take it for granted that people will think of us and are grateful for every donation.
Herald on Sunday sports editor Paul Lewis donated his newspaper's Fifa World Cup winnings to the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation (LBF).
Lewis, whose brother Philip had a brush with cancer and was on the recent Air New Zealand 'Sky High Shave' flight from Auckland to Queenstown, participated in the publication’s Readers vs Media charity betting contest, in conjunction with the TAB, during the FIFA World Cup.
Having won the competition, Lewis chose to donate the proceeds of $903.30 to his brother’s Shave for a Cure fundraising effort. He says: “You only realize how serious the issue is when it affects your family.”
The competition saw readers taking on the media in a Readers vs Media contest. It ran from June 13, to the end of the tournament on July 11. The participants included the Herald on Sunday’s Andrew Alderson and Lewis and two readers, Philip Kelleway and Haydn Clifford.
Overall, the media team easily won the team competition - $571.40 to the readers' $331.90, with a grand total of $903.30 to be directed to charity. As Lewis won the individual stakes - he returned a total of $365.70, compared to Kelleway's $237.90, Alderson's $205.70 and Clifford's $94.00. Lewis won bragging rights and the opportunity to donate the proceeds to his charity of choice. Thanks for selecting us!
Challenge leads to win
TVNZ’s show SKODA GAME ON – Extra Time, performs weekly 60 second challenges with athletes who earn $100 to donate to a charity of their choice. Warriors Ian Henderson and Michael Luck chose to donate their winnings to the LBF. Thanks guys!
Hubbards staff selects the LBF
A staff member of Hubbard Foods won a competition with Telecom for a $1,000.00 to go to their charity of choice. That staff member, Rachel Burr, generously chose the LBF to donate her prize.
Rachel, who is Marketing and NPD Manager, and Dick Hubbard along with Telecom’s Alastair Stewart, visited the LBF offices on Thursday 4 February to present a cheque to the team.
The LBF is grateful for the ongoing support from the Hubbards’ team and for Telecom’s support.
The Hubbards’ team has supported the LBF’s Shave for a Cure fundraising event for three years in a row. In 2009, a team of Hubbards employees and some of their sales team from Twin Agencies raised funds for the LBF which Hubbards then matched.
Their team made a great effort to raise funds and have a bit of team fun in the process. Hubbards is also supporting the LBF by featuring us on their cereal boxes. Now you can learn about the LBF while enjoying your breakfast.
Thank you to Hubbards and Telecom for helping the LBF to continue to raise funds and awareness about leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood conditions.
